Hello! I have found an archive of StarNet's X11 server for DOS, both 286 and 386: http://www.orgchm.bas.bg/pub/xwindows/starnet/ The source code is present there and it is GPLed, but I do not find any other archive sites anywhere. Starnet has removed the files from their own ftp. I'd suggest making a copy somewhere else (at FreeDos.org?) if possible to prevent disappearing of the nice program - and of course list the software, it is hard to find otherwise! I did run the xlite version on a 286, many years ago. It was not too much fun but it kind of worked. No problem to run an xterm or two :) A note, the binaries distributed seem to still have a limitation built in. I have been in contact with StarNet (about 6-7 years ago?) and they told me it was not the intention - but evidently they never repackaged the files after that. That is it may be tricky to run the binaries without recompile. YMMV. $ cmp -l XLC.EXE xlc.exe 312167 34 377 312168 356 377 312171 27 377 312172 356 377 315861 343 0 315862 21 0 315865 350 0 315866 21 0 $ cmp -l XLM.EXE xlm.exe 278983 34 377 278984 356 377 278987 27 377 278988 356 377 282521 343 0 282522 21 0 282525 350 0 282526 21 0 Regards, -- Ivan ---------- list options/archives/etc.: http://www.topica.com/lists/fd-dev unsubscribe: send blank email to: [email protected] ==^================================================================ This email was sent to: [email protected] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?bz8Rv5.bafB3U Or send an email to: [email protected] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================
