For anyone who may have been following this thread (or reading the archives), i was successful getting an Asante "MCiLC-10T" PDS EtherNet card (part number 09-00062-03) to work under OpenBSD on an LC 475. An important tip is that some cards (like this one) don't support auto-negotiation of port speed and, therefore, are not compatible with auto-negotiating 100/10T switches common today. I solved that problem by plugging it into an old 10T Hub i had (which could then be linked to an auto-negotiating switch).
