Here's Asante's technote on the issue: __________________________ Title: MCiLC-10T Won¹t Work With Auto negotiating Hubs & Switches Document No: TID1930 Date Modified: 6/28/2000 Technical Note Summary: MCiLC-10T Won¹t Work With Auto negotiating Hubs & Switches When connected to autonegotiating hubs and switches which are set in the following scenarios, the link LED on the MCiLC-10T will blink, the card will never establish a link, nor will network communication take place: 1). Autonegotiation is on, and 2). Switch is set to HDX with speed autosensing (10/100 such as the 400XE and 3208 products). Solution: This card was produced before NWAY autonegotiation was developed. Therefore it is incapable of autonegotiating with these hubs and switches. There is one solution to this problem. If the switch is capable of being forced to 10Mbit/HDX via hardware or software, the card will establish link and communicate with the network. If autonegotiation is the only option for the switch, then the card must be moved to a workstation that connects to a hub lower in the network stratum.
