I have yet to find the HD which requires a patched formatter, although
i am sure they are out there. But in this case, since these disks all
have Apple logos on them, i'm quite sure the standard, unhacked Apple
formatter is sufficient (provided it is one of the later versions).
The version which shipped with MacOS 8.1 should work.
The HD driver may need to be updated before the HD Utility will allow
the disk to be formatted.

Or could be a SCSI termination issue!!!!
