A serial console would be interesting, though would not change the
next issue you see...

That's what I would have expected out of the bsd.rd file, actually.

A lot of work has gone into the OpenBSD/mac68k port for 3.7, but
unfortunately, 68030 support was one of the casualties of this work.
Honestly, due to the performance of the 68030 machines when running a
modern OS, I don't think there is much excitement about repairing this
issue.  If you develop a fix and send it in and it doesn't break the
Quadras that now work, we'll commit it happily, but I doubt we'll spend
huge amounts of time on it.  That kind of work gets really painful.
