Nah, I've been thinking a little more and I think this could work.

Before anyone starts collecting money we'd need to find a current OBSD
developer who'd be willing to work for $30-ish (preferably Canadian (for
me)). I'd then ask that developer to give us ideas how much time he'd
need to get to certain, important points.

Some concerns I'd have is that we probably couldn't pay for SMP start to
finish, so I'd worry that what we did manage to pay for would get left
behind as the main OBSD tree kept on going, making what we paid for less
and less useful. Everyone donating would need to be sure they had proper
expectations.


I'd be willing to organize this and have the means to take credit cards
(not through paypal), plus some money I could put forward myself.

At $30/Hour working 10 hour days, it'd be $6k per month. Which seems
high, but with enough people contributing seems ok. To get a better idea
of how "expensive" that is, we'd need to find out how much work could
get done in a month.

I think if this works well (paying developers) there's a number of "pet"
things that I'd personally like to see aside from SMP. Like support for
older releases.


Anywho, any developers here interested? At this point it's "all talk",
but if anyone is interested, it could turn into something decent.
