sparc64 systems don't even have an MBR-based partition table.

Endianess thing, MBR-less thing, etc.  Doesn't work.
You didn't save any kernels as "obsd" or similar?  Ouch. :(

A U5/U10 or any other PCI Sun, (almost) any SATA card will allow you
to do what you are trying to do, otherwise, you need to netboot the
thing, I think the T1000 lacks on-board initial boot media options
like CDROMs.  hm...can you boot a T1000 off a USB CDROM?
