Sun Blade 150 hang on ral0 when configuring

I was using this system as my home router and wireless access point and
the disk drive died (OpenBSD 4.6). I set the system aside for a few
months and I
recently took the time and replaced the disk and installed 4.8 with
defaults. Whenever I mess with
the ral0 interface the box will just hang. Nothing written to the
console and I have to power cycle to recover.
Very repeatable with a simple ifconfig ral0 down/up.

What is interesting is if I just boot the box and have everything
configured (and not touch ral0), the box
appears stable. I did some tests and routed >200 GB through the
wireless and wired network (simultaneously) while
scp files on to the Blade 150 itself on a test network setup and the
box didn't skip a beat. I go to change the
SSID, wpa passphrase or bring the interface up/down and the box just
locks tight. This happens
regardless of how long the box has been up.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony
