Hello!

I have been using OpenBSD for a 1/2 year and think it's great. I feel safe on the internet, and also the OpenBSD security thinking has tought me to be realistic about security and for example run certain programs as a separate user or even chrooted. When I was running Red Hat Linux I just convinced myself that I was safe :-)

I'm looking to buy a better laptop; there should be a lot more models on the i386-laptop page. Not very interesting really, but this is what I have discovered on my computer:

Toshiba Tecra 520CDT
OpenBSD 3.8 -release

Graphic card (ct65555) with Xorg everything OK.
halt -p works. Other APM not tested.
Mousestick no problem just use wsmouse.
PCMCIA tested with EtherPrime network card.
USB with ASUS CD-RW: yes.

Infrared: haven't been able to test.

Sound card (Yamaha OPL3-SA3): exactly the same things as with Toshiba Tecra 8000 must be done (disable sb, change wss IRQ to 5 and make sure drq matches bios settings). But even after that the output volume cannot be set (no outputs.* fields at all exists). This (?) problem is mentioned in the ym(4) manual. If you disable the wss and enable the sb driver instead, volume can be set between 0 - 128 but play.rate, play.encoding etc cannot be altered. I still have some experimenting to do in this area, like trying the ym driver.

Manuals for all Toshibas is downloadable as pdf documents.
