Hi, Is there any support for openbsd.org serving banner ads for hardware vendors that provide good documentation and work with developers? This would give cooperative vendors a big thank you and generate income for the project. (The "thank you" is the priviledge of appearing on www, they still must pay for impressions.) Who knows, it might convince more vendors to provide docs. Users would also benefit. I see questions about best hardware on misc, and referrals to the (dead) vendorwatch site. If www had one summary page that showed all the ads, grouped in some logical way, it would be an easy way for users to support vendors that have been open. For example, to find that 10G ethernet vendor, I had to remember that the article was on undeadly. And that the title was the driver name. For good GigE adapters, I have to search list archives. As a user who will be buying hardware in the near future, I would appreciate a central marketplace where I can find OpenBSD-friendly vendors. I would expect the project could get at least $5.00 USD for every ad that is viewed 1000 times--so you do the math, would this support an additional full-time developer? Wouldn't that be nice ... I am _not_ proposing using Google or Yahoo ads, I am thinking about selling ad space to specific vendors, and serving it from a free software ad serving app), thereby maintaining 100% control over what appears on the site. I think it could be done in a tasteful way that helps users and doesn't cast any shadows on the project. Vendors help us (by providing docs), and we help them (by displaying their ads). Leaving implementation details aside, are there any philosophical objections? I am willing to make this happen if there is support. Please CC me, as I'm not subscribed. Thanks, m
