Old PCI Riva TNT

Hi all,
I got a new OpenBSD box, one with an 845GE based mobo. Now I know
there's no 845G/845GE support in XFree86 4.2 so in the meantime I threw
in an old Riva TNT PCI card so hopefully I could still use X (obviously,
stunning graphics performance isn't an issue).
Here the thing, it works, but when exiting X it kicks the monitor
out-of-sync and basically I have to ssh in and actually power the box
down to get it back.
So any thoughts on avoiding this?
