The new versions are distributed under the GPL and the maintainers told
us some time ago that it was not possible for them to change that.
So OpenBSD is keeping the last free version. We've already fixed a
number of bugs and removed some non-free parts from the OpenBSD version
of fvwm.

Afaict, there is a port for fvwm-current. If it's not up-to-date, you
can help updating it.

If someone knows of a good, modern (ie with KDE, Gnome, Xft2 and
xcompmgr support) window manager that's compatible with OpenBSD's
licensing scheme (BSD or MIT-style license, not GPL or LGPL) and doesn't
depend on libraries not already included in OpenBSD's CVS, please let us
know, it may become the next OpenBSD window manager.
