Hi,
First thank you one and all for your prior help and advice, it
makes life a little easier. AND .... thanks in advance for your
further help.

Next...... if we "do not" put any boot time parameters at the OD
x86 v8.0.1 start up (Boot) command line aka -f -s when:

a.) First installing Darwin X86 v 8.0.1

b.) After install and next boot or further boots

It runs through the usual text up your screen and you see a
highlighted error repeated several times, on our box (PC) it's
barely able to be noted (the text islow flying going up the screen) it'd
delivered up the screen so fast.

THE ERROR.

The error seems to relate to:

Failed to load extension com.apple.GeForce

Anyone have any fix(s), patches, or known workaround available ?

Our mobo is the new Gigabyte Siga Series GA-K8NXP-SLI WITH ....
nVida nForce4 SLI Chipset.
The mobo has 3 (three) seperate HDD controllers on board, PCIe bus
slots new standard firewire wide band nic's x 2 8 SATA HDD
capability.

FURTHER ERRORS NOTED.

The was a repeatable, reproduceable error involving OD X86 ver
8.0.1 if autoformating was chosen,

ERROR SIMILAR TO : Unknown format/partioning USAGE then the short
list blurb of darwin fdisk parameters and then it hangs while doing
and instant reboot......

USUALLY with again a repeatable reproducable error relating to :

kdp-poll: no debugger device

The Darwin UDF partition option often gave errors while
uncompressing/ installing files to the chosen HDD.

We finally were able to get over the ALL of the problems of this
rater rough around the edges Darwin OS including many failed
installs by using the "-f and -s" boot time parameter options. also
we gave darwin x86 v 8.0.1 fdisk the "heave ho" and began using a
free 3rd Party HFS Partitioning Utility for *nix (in our case FC3
Host) and also "not" optioning "clean" (say no) with the Darwin Installer Prompt. We "finally" and very
dramatically ended up "finally" at a final choice menu to Add a new
user, reboot etc. Then our further problems really began in earnest !

JUST A HINT.

COMMON GRUB CONFIG OPTIONS "DIDN'T WORK"
Including advice given by someone who appears to be a regular
discuss forum advisor re grub bootloader problems.

Seems as though grubs ability to change drive mapping (on the fly)
might work for some, but we have grub config so (re)config(ured) done and redone till
hell froze over, and Darwin x86 version 8.0.1 STILL won't boot from
Grub ver 0.9 ( I believe FC3's grub version is 0.9, i may be wrong.
) on our very stable bog stock standard Fedora Core 3 installations
!

Note for newbie's and oldbees..... Release 2 of GNU Grub is
aparently out. It might solve a lot of our current problems,
aparently rumored to have good hfs recognition. Anything for an
easy life !!! Amen.

Strangely an old copy of Power Quests Boot Magic for dos has been
our multi boot saviour for years and under this roof on ALL our
boxes...... that is up until........ "Along came Darwin".

Nothing has been the same since.

Sanity has NOT ruled under this roof since !

We have what must look like, to our well known Computer Related
Friends, a house in upheavel and chaos. we had not (1) one but (2)
two PC unbootable or unusable at one stage both of which had major
investments in at least 3 (three) seperate OS's on each box.

The pain, the pain "OH ! THE BLOODY PAIN" of it all, and all for a
text default, OS, God we are starting to think we are all looney
toons under our own roof. I doubt unless certain matters resolve
themselves, quite quickly we will persist with our little Darwin
Project !

Darwin has become a labour of love and love is under great labour at present.

But haveing gone through days which quickly became nights which
turned into further days without a single hour of sleep, of more
ongoing problems, pain and sufferage. I'm determened to get my
moneys worth ....... finally.... sooner or later... in the fullness
of time, by hook or by crook I'll see a GUI Boot up involving
Darwin going on under our roof soon. Or Darwin can pack up his prong and bugger off!

THE SEMI FINAL RESULTS WERE:

1.) Darwin - MS Dos - Win2k Pro all boot fine but FC3 won't boot with PQ's BM.

2.) FC3 - Dos and Win2k Pro will boot with FC3's Grub (ver 0.9) but
NOT Darwin X86 Ver 8.0.1 in fact IF the physical HDD with the
Darwin X86 v 8.0.1 is not optioned as None in the CMOS Grub just
hangs !

THE FINAL RESULTS WERE.......

Changing the DRIVE CHANNEL ORDER from the latest Gigabyte Sigma
Series GA-K8NXP-SLI mobo's Award CMOS/BIOS settings and shifting UP
the drive list the IDE ATA COMPLIANT ULTRA 100 80GIG WESTERN DIGITAL DRIVE ON
the CHANNEL list to 0 has Darwin able to get to it's pesky just text boot screen.

So "finaly" we can repeatedly boot into Darwin x86 ver 8.0.1

UNFORTUNATELY...... if we want to boot anything else we have to do
the dull boreing, annoying and very unacceptable "PRESS DEL TO
ENTER SETUP" exercise on the next reboot. Swapping the Dawin 80gig back to number 2 in the drive chain !!!

STILL TO DO (TO TRY).

The second IDE device is our newer LG cdrom/dvd supermulti strapped to the Primary Slave position and pinned as a slave, perhaps putting it to slave behind the Darwin 80gig drive as master may help.

I'm still overtired, and slightly stressed, we actually lost the lot through all of the drama's FC3 completely our first hdd with msdos and bootloader etc and Darwin by accident also. But we were able to restore the lot basically.
Thanks to Bootit NG.
God how we hope it gets easier. Many thanks.

We are up again, i never though i had more to learn about partitioning and drive mapping .....but..... Darwin has shown me anything is possible !

regards to all, and thank you.
                                                                       jeff.

ps. CORRECTIONS TO A PRIOR POST .... the OD version was NOT 8.1.1 BUT OD VERSION 8.1

Our thanks to Shantonu Sen for pulling our attention to our mistook. We also thank Shantonu for offering us other advice by email, thanks again Shantonu. I personally am NOT a quitter, i have been known in the past to come up with solutions 6 months later, nibbling away at a computer related problem. I will hang in with Darwin.
                                                                                                j.
