How about fixing your software instead of "fixing" the kernel?

If you'd tell us why you feel the need for more than 8 segments,  
chances are good we can provide you better help.

No idea what you expect here, but the most trouble you have to deal  
with isn't the modification of a single kernel. You ask your  
customers to modify their system in a way dedicated for _your_  
software and you ask them to do so again for each system and after  
each update coming in via Software Update. Administrators of 100-Mac- 
offices will have fun :-)
