I wonder if there is a significant difference in power consumption between
a linear and switching cell phone charger.  I read an article once stating
that a TV uses 85W (!) on standby.  They didn't specify how old of a TV or
what technology (LCD, CRT, etc.) might pull current like that, but that
seemed awfully high to me.

Just out of curiosity, though: why do the big machines pull so much power?
 Is it because they have a large number of drives that can't spin down?
