Re: Sol 10 5/08 64bit on Ultra 10

Thanks for the several encouraging emails and suggestions which made  
me think more about it.

Chiefly, I reasoned, that Sun must have tested an Ultra 10 *somewhere*  
- but if they had, it would have been the latest greatest everything,  
so I decided to start with the Boot Firmware becuase this is a new U10  
I was given to replace one which died .....

What I did was as follows:

1) Updated OpenBoot to 3.31 (it was 3.19, had to change a jumper to  
write!, and thats probably the cause right there - 3.25 or later is a  
requirement for Solaris 10.)
2) After a couple of boot fails I did a  'boot -r' on a hunch
3) This time CDE came up and my Solaris install contined where it had  
left off way before by asking me for CD 2... This went all the way  
through CD 5 and rebooted.
4) Then I got a 'Repository Integrity Check Failed' which pointed me  
at http://www.sun.com/msg/SMF-8000-MY
5) So I ran /lib/svc/bin/restore_repository and chose -seed- to  
initialise my SMF database.
6) booted all the way to the console login, but hangs at that point.
console error about /usr/sbin/pmconfig repository-manifest keyword  
line 2
7) booted single user and commented this line out of power.conf
8) booted in verbose mode, continued to hang
9) reset nvram to defaults, and then set local mac address true (i  
have a qfe)
10) Eureka - It booted for the first time multi user and now I have my  
solaris box back and running Sol 10

It might just have been nvram defaults and openboot version which  
should have been my first things to check but thats with hindsight.
