I loaded the latest version of APCUPSD as a few people suggested. I got it compiled OK but I can't seem to get it to connect to my APC SU2200. I am using the supplied cable from APC (model 940-0024B) and have attached it (through a M-M gender changer) to a standard serial <> RJ45 cable which is plugged into serial port B. I also tried my own home made cable that didn't need the gender changer but that did not work either. I have the correct cable spec'ed in the apcupsd.conf as well as /dev/ttyb as the port. Here is the error I get: # /etc/init.d/apcupsd start Starting apcupsd power management ... Done. # May 11 23:06:40 sunfire apcupsd[8654]: apcupsd FATAL ERROR in smartsetup.c at line 171 May 11 23:06:40 sunfire PANIC! Cannot communicate with UPS via serial port. May 11 23:06:40 sunfire Please make sure the port specified on the DEVICE direct ive is correct, May 11 23:06:40 sunfire and that your cable specification on the UPSCABLE direct ive is correct. May 11 23:06:40 sunfire apcupsd[8654]: apcupsd error shutdown completed I am wondering if I need to mess with the port settings in admintool but the speed should be correct according to the APC information I could find (9600). Any thoughts are welcome. Brian P.
