Thanks for all the comments thus far, very helpful.

The adapter I currently have is most certainly not a Sun original.  I have no idea where I got it because it's been so long.  Once upon a time I actually had a KVM converter box from Cybex that would convert everything to regular video but the last time I even saw it I couldn't get it working again.  I may go hunting for it again just in case.

I'll keep a look out for the monitors mentioned as well as a legitimate Sun adapter (though these are hard to find).  If the pinout is available somewhere then I wouldn't mind making my own pigtail adapter.

Barring all of that that I suppose the ultimate step would be to put a graphics card in the IPX that will feed an average LCD.
