As others have noted, the choice of LCD makes a big difference. I use NEC MultiSync LCDs (2090UXi lately) with most of my Sun workstations including IPX and Classic - although I'm just finishing retiring my production workstations older than U5/U60s - my IPX, Classics, SS5s and SS20 are finally getting a bit hard to support. A copy of the Framebuffer FAQ at http://www.sunhelp.org/faq/FrameBuffer.html may help - the IPX onboard framebuffer should be a GX. Cheaper and/or older LCD monitors often only supported v-freq of 60Hz which isn't available (AFAIK) on the IPX. The NEC MultiSyncs I use support 60-85Hz.
