Re: SS20 IDPROM chip

The chip does indeed pull out.  If you can, acquire a chip pulling tool to pull it out.  Otherwise a small screwdriver used to very gently pry up each end a little at a time will work.  (Just lift one side slightly, then the other a little, then back to the first a little more, etc.)

The chip is also reusable if you carve off the plastic at one end to expose the battery terminals.  I've done this to a couple IPXes, soldering a small button battery holder to the chip with some wire and then gluing the button holder to the top of the chip.  Now I can replace the battery anytime it dies and I don't have CRC errors caused by the newer versions of the chip (which I've also tried).
