While I'm in a playful mood on the subject of frame refresh rates, I'd like to point out the sea change in monitor and TV viewing going on today that it seems no one has noticed.  Dogs can watch TV now!  With refresh rates at and above 90 Hz, dogs can no longer see the screen flicker, so TV images on modern monitors are now recognisable to dogs.  Cats could always see the images because they don't see flicker at 60 Hz.

Yes. SoG is an issue. But not with Suns. Sun framebuffers usually use C-Sync and most SGIs supply H/V-Sync in addition to SoG.

And if a monitor (CRT or LCD) promises to support SoG in its tech specs, the reality is different. I came across CRTs and LCDs that promised SoG and in practice it didn't work right. E.g. SoG was only recognized when the displayed picture was relatively bright. With white text on a black background it didn't work. Fortunately it is quite simple to extract C-Sync from SoG. I did this with a simple comparator.
