Excuse me: what I find offensive is that you have apparently assumed that I'm some sort of newbie and it is your place to "kindly" lecture me on How To Be Correct.  

I have seen many posts by you on this and other lists and I have always considered you to be an intelligent person. But I do not appreciate your implication that I am lazy and clueless, or that I am somehow an unwashed heathen who has wandered into these hallowed halls and is now greatly offending the gentlefolk.  Of course, I've never shied away from offending the self-identified gentlefolk.... 

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.  I stand corrected on Sun machines and sync-on-green: upon review, I realize I've never run any of my Sun boxes with a non-Sun monitor.  It was with other machines, in particular the Octane I recently acquired, that I most recently ran into the SOG challenge.  My DECstation 5000 is also dependent on SOG, and with both machines I've seen the odd behavior that occurs when the monitor doesn't grok SOG.  And I'm trying to move to LCDs as much as possible, both for space and power considerations. -- Ian

You have at least the choice to manualy move the cursor down before you
start typing and you have the choice to delete irrelevant parts of the
quoted text. It is mostly a matter of laziness of not doing this, as
this entirely depends on you and is independent of the MUA you use.

At least I do this editing when I use e.g. the MUA of my Android
smartphone, that suffers from the same idiosyncrasys as Outlook.

Yes, this sounds offending, but it isn't meant that way. You are in the
realm of the UNIX culture, where top posting is a faux pas. I just wane
help you to avoid this mistake, as it may offend other people. It is
just a matter of politeness to adapt to the culture you are interacting
with.
