If I were faced with a UA that uncivilized and for some reason couldn't
just ignore it and use something else when carrying on civilized
discourse, I'd cut-and-paste the whole message into an editor, delete
the whole thing (including the quoted message) in the broken UA, edit
the reply until I'm happy with it, and paste it back.  Start a new
message to paste the response into if it wouldn't let me delete the
quoted message.  I would not be willing to inflict that level of brain
damage on my correspondents.

Any UA that couldn't support even that much I probably simply wouldn't
use.  Really.  There has to come a point where we, the collective
users, put our feet down and say, no, that's just too broken.
Compelling top-posting levels of rudeness is just too broken for me.
