Re: Agave Soil Mixture?

I have long used a mix that is about 1 part potting soil or other
organic styled mix, and 4 parts inorganic components such as pumice,
sand or a mix of the two. It has always worked fine, but I do have to be
careful about too much water here in the winter and in the late summer
when hot/humid conditions prevail. I have known agaves grown with much
more inorganic to organic and they, too, seem to work well but I
consider the mix so heavy and unwieldy I never liked it. But ironically
some of the best results I have had have been in small agaves in a
perlite/vermiculite (50:50) mix. By small I mean young seedlings. And I
definitely find that bulbils and pups set their best roots in a equal
parts of pumice and sand. But conditions differ everywhere.
