Apollo alliance, further thoughts regarding support of carfree cities

What will be the impact on autoworkers?

A New Apollo Project is a way to save the American
auto industry, which is currently losing market share
to the Japanese who have innovated higher efficiency
vehicles. A New Apollo Project would require the
President to bring together industry, labor and
environmental leaders to work out a strategy that is a
win-win-win for business, workers and the environment.
A major investment in the industry is key to helping
American automakers make the transition to higher
efficiency cars and trucks while protecting working
families and increasing our global competitiveness.

But an effort and alliance on that scale is one way to
get carfreecities built in the US.

Building a carfree city and carfree areas will not put
all autoworkers out of work, and will create
opportunities for much more pleasant and less toxic
jobs required in the everyday operation of a carfree
city.

Any further ideas from the carfree lists? 

Any interest in trying to get an endorsement and
mention of the carfree city concept on the apollo
alliance site?

I found out about the site from:

The next step may be for one of our organizations
(World Carfree & CarfreeCity.us) to attempt to join
the alliance--If their platform can be modified to
include carfree cities & areas.

I'll probably write a more formal letter to their
director eventually, but wanted to get this idea out
there.
