but MasterCard is working with a fare-collection technology
company and a transit agency.  Chicago's Ventra transit card
can also be used as a prepaid MasterCard debit card:

Alternatively, a contactless bank card can be used with the
Ventra system.

=v= There is some interest in this latter approach since
it reduces the cost of manufacturing separate transit cards
(and MasterCard can pick up that business).  We don't see
much of that yet, because the U.S. lags behind much of the
industrialized world in that we are slow to adopt contactless
bank cards and credit cards.

ObDisclaimer:  The company I work for is owned by the fare-
collection technology company that implemented Ventra.  I'm
not writing anything on my employers' behalf, nor do I have
any experience with Ventra.  I just know that it exists.
