So the more congestion the better? Congestion is not a tool but a symptom of the car oriented transport system. There is no absolutely good or bad thing - whatever is good for someone may be bad for someone else and vice versa. Congestion is very very bad for car users. For pedestrians and bikers is something indifferent - in some cases it may be even a good thing > > Of course building more roads should not be the alternative to congestion, but I understood the discussion was about reducing the number of cars on the road. > > Is congestion better to reduce the negative impacts of cars on the environment than reducing the number of cars on the road, even if these fewer cars may drive a longer distance? The only way to reduce the negative impacts of cars on the environment is to reduce car use. It seems to me that programms aiming at congestion reduction, eco-driving etc are like aspirins to someone suffering from a serious disease. Their main and only long lasting outcome is to disorient the only efficient way to reduce the negative impacts of cars on the environment ie. to reduce car use. > Looking at the increasing impact of cars on the environment over the past decades. These impacts are still rising, together with increasing congestion. > _____________________________________________________________________________________ http://www.mailbox.gr ÁðïêôÞóôå äùñåÜí ôï ìïíáäéêü óáò e-mail. http://www.superweb.gr ÏéêïíïìéêÜ êáé áîéüðéóôá ðáêÝôá web hosting ìå áóöáëÝò Åëëçíéêü controlpanel http://wwww.domains24.gr Ôï üíïìÜ óáò óôï internet áðü 9.95 Åõñþ. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "World Carfree Network" group.
