US: billions of dollars for auto industry?

Hi all,

In the USA right now, "Democrats are pressing hard to include a
multibillion-dollar bailout for faltering automakers" as one news
source has it. See:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/agbpgvcbma84

There could potentially be billions of dollars that are given or lent
to the auto industry, to help it through rough times. Especially House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi is aggressively pursuing this. Is anyone else
following this? Does anyone know of US environmental groups or other
pressure groups that are voicing their opposition to this?

Regards,

Justin
