Donington plan "car-free" British Grand Prix

Formula 1 spectators planning to attend the 2010 British Grand Prix at 
Donington Park have been warned that organisers hope to make the event a 
'car-free' one.

Critics fear that traffic and access problems would prevent spectators 
from making the trip to the Leicestershire venue, but circuit chief 
executive has revealed plans to have the crowd arrive entirely by public 
transport.

Speaking at an open day at the track, Simon Gillett said: "This will be 
the first public transport grand prix.

"We are not bringing cars here.

"We are looking to use public transport from all the major conurbations, 
the airport and the Parkway station."

Silverstone will stage the 2009 race before the event is switched to 
Donington, although the track has yet to receive planning permission for 
the renovations to make it suitable for a grand prix.

"We are still on schedule for our construction programme," Gillett is 
quoted as saying in the Nottingham Evening Post.

"We will have a nine-month construction programme in an 18-month window.

"We have got the time and we have got the money. It is going to be the 
world's best circuit."

significant automobile industry sponsorship.
