From what I've read about the Al Qaeda teachings, these terrorists
believe that if they are to die while killing a bunch of infidels
(Americans, Jews, etc), they will be treated to entry into heaven,
including - but not limited to - the "services" of several virgins who
will cater to their every desire. And they believe that America is
simply evil and must be destroyed.  

You're right, though; we'll never know exactly why they did it. You sure
can't ask a dead man why he did it.
