United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navenethem Pillay has met=
=20
with Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva, two of the wives of the Cuban 5,=20
and has stated that she will intercede on their behalf.=20

Now that Rene Gonzalez is now free in Cuba with his wife Olga Salanueva, th=
is=20
means Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo is the only member of the Cuban 5 who=20
has not seen his wife.=20

For the past 16 years Gerardo Hernandez=E2=80=99s wife, Adriana Perez, hasn=
=E2=80=99t been allowed to visit him.  The U.S.=20
asserts that she is a risk to national security, despite the fact that=20
the U.S. government has no proof or rationale to justify this belief.=20=20
This separation is a violation of Gerardo=E2=80=99s civil and international=
 rights as a prisoner.

UNITED NATIONS, GENEVA, March 1, 2013 - United Nations High=20
Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs. Navenethem Pillay, received,=20
yesterday, Olga Salanueva, spouse of Ren=C3=A9 Gonz=C3=A1lez, and Adriana P=
=C3=A9rez,=20
spouse of Gerardo Hern=C3=A1ndez.

During the meeting, Adriana and=20
Olga explained to the High Commissioner the necessity that this=20
organization intercedes in a direct manner on behalf of the case of the=20
Cuban Five for a definitive solution, while they requested their support
 in order to be granted visas to entry the United States to visit their=20
husbands.

Olga stressed that the supervised freedom regime=20
endured by Rene constitutes a legal absurdity that does not comply with=20
any purpose and unnecessarily prohibits his return to his Homeland and=20
reunite his relatives. Adriana requested a humanitarian gesture that=20
requires the political willingness and ethics of the United States=20
Government.

Mrs. Pillay acknowledged the visa denial as a=20
violation to the human rights and expressed this cannot constitute an=20
additional punishment.

UN Commissioner expressed her support to=20
this fight and her intention to do whatever is possible to find a=20
solution to the case.
