First, can=E2=80=99t resist this.Ken has commented on RBB that =E2=80=9Cana=
rchy has lost.=E2=80=9DJudging from what one sees much on the media, anarchy=
is doing too well.But I thinkKen means =E2=80=9Cthoughtful and/or philosop=
hical anarchism=E2=80=9D and, if so, he is ontarget on that.
I have just a few thoughts on the broad fall-out from Ferguson.
I suspect that many foreign observerssee the racial tensions and conflicts =
in this country as almost solely black/white =E2=80=93 and I also have ahun=
ch that=E2=80=99s the way many Americans see it as well. But, as we all know=
, of course, it goes wellbeyond African Americans =E2=80=93 oft targets of =
virulent racism as they are.Natives and Mexicans are often victims of compa=
rableracism and/or poisonous ethnocentrism, sometimes lethally so.Poor whit=
es, e.g. homeless men, can besubjected to profound class prejudice and disc=
rimination =E2=80=93 and sometimesdeath. In all of these situations, perpetra=
tors can be =E2=80=9Cofficial=E2=80=9D in nature, members of hate groups, o=
r simplyfree lancers.
Mainline media, with some exceptions, tend to focus mainlyor completely on =
the African American situation.Gross injustice and/or deadly tragedyinvolvi=
ng =E2=80=9Cothers=E2=80=9Dmay get local and, less occasionally, regional c=
overage =E2=80=93 butthose can frequently be blatantly and subtly stacked a=
gainst the target victim.
I see very, very few features on mainlinemedia that discuss the often dire =
social justice plight of Natives and (asidefrom the immigration controversi=
es) Chicanos =E2=80=93 or low-income Anglos as far asthat goes.
With a very few exceptions, theliberal/left media and the left press in thi=
s country are as functionally exclusionary as virtually all of themainline =
versions.
