I'm passing on Ralph Shaffer's op ed for a reason, less for you to read it,=
than to encourage you to follow his example. Ralph is my age, was in the S=
ocialist Party decades ago at UCLA. His op eds may not be something all of =
us can do, but even something much "smaller" (such as the fairly frequent l=
etters my sister in Santa Barbara sends her local paper) do count.
"They" control the media, but the letters to the editor, and in Ralph's cas=
e, the carefully written op ed, are a chance for us to make use of that thi=
n edge of freedom open to us
The link below is my latest op-ed,running this week in various dailies and =
blogs, in which I comment onthe slogan used so widely in the recent demonst=
rations over unnecessaryuse of force by police against blacks. For a decade=
I've written op-edscondemning homicide by cop, arguing that the cops kill =
people from allethnic groups. I use the phrase "affirmative action shooters=
" and offerstatistics in support of that position. Anyway, here's the link.
