Dear Steven --- you raise a very fascinating point --- when does class
based resistance translate into strong political danger for a ruling group?
  A similar question might be asked about why in the US the strike wave of
1877 and the Pullman strike of 1894 did not threaten the rising industrial
capitalism --- perhaps in both cases, the ruling (class?) had access to a
full armed force and was not afraid to use it.

Hari's point might identify the POLITICAL pressure point of a regime like
Modi's --

What I find amazing is the fact that in the US, the "protest" against
rising fascism is so ---- well ---- tame by comparison.   We in the
opposition (and I surely include myself) are just too "comfortable" to take
the risks that people in other countries seem willing to do --- but I
return to my first point --- are Americans so completely susceptible to off
the world disinformation that we still have 37 percent of the population
drinking the Trump Kool Aid ???   That remains a true mystery to me.
