Re: Is DSA preparing to be the Green Party of 2028?

As someone who worked for and supported Ralph Nader's Green Party campaigns
of 2000 and 2004 (as did Louis), I saw this as a positive movement from the
left against the Democrats. Nader wasn't a Marxist but a lifelong New Deal
Democrat who said that after the neoliberal takeover of the party by the
Clintons and their supporters, there was no room in the party for people
like him. He ran a strong uncompromising campaign, filling NYC's Madison
Square Garden the night befor the 2000 election, and was in a position to
break away their left wing, which is precisely why they attacked him,
trying to throw the Greens off the ballot in several states, and slandered
him in 2000 for "stealing" votes "meant for them", thus "being responsible
for W Bush/Cheney" running the country!
Unfortunately, the leadership of the Greens capitulated to that slander and
abandoned having an alternative to the Democrats. We've been waiting for a
quarter of a century for a chance to repeat that movement and finally it's
here. It's not the revoljutionary movement I've been hoping to see since I
became an activist back in 1969, but as Steven quoted Marx and Engels, "a
mass movement is worth a thousand perfect theoretical statements" that few
are acting on!
