Man charged for covering head during police beating

Gilberto Matamoros, a 21-year-old youth center worker, says he was doing nothing 
wrong when police arrested him during a brawl in Miami's Coconut Grove 
neighborhood on Halloween. According to his lawyer, Ricardo Martinez-Cid, 
Matamoros was picked out of an unruly crowd and beaten unconscious by two Miami 
police officers. He had to be taken to a nearby hospital.
Cell phone footage of the incident shows a police officer hitting Matamoros five 
times on or near his head. Miami police launched an investigation into the two 
officers' actions after the video appeared on local news stations last week.

Texas jury on Wednesday found ex-House Majority Leader Tom Delay guilty of money 
laundering.
It took 19 hours but the panel of six men and six women found Delay guilty of 
conspiring with two associates for going around state law that bars corporate 
contributions to political campaigns. He faces 5 to 99 years in prison though 
incredibly the judge could choose probation. In any event Delay intends to 
appeal his conviction.
Hopefully Delay's conviction will open the door to more prosecutions of other 
hack politicians and their corporate and special interest backers that have so 
completely corrupted the political process in their favor.

military exercise on Sunday with the George Washington aircraft carrier in route 
as I write. The last two SK exercises have led to dead South Koreans. The North

prevent war? No. South Korea has increased its military presence and moved

Other analysts are warning the the euro is in danger of collapse because of the 
very serious sovereign debt crisis that is affecting nations such as Greece, 
Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Belgium and Spain. So what happens if the dollar and 
the euro both collapse? Well, it would certainly throw the current world 
financial order into a state of chaos, but what would emerge from the ashes?

An artist found guilty of burning down Gävle's christmas goat in 2001 now says 
it is a secret society that carries out the yearly act of arson - and that this 
group is made up of the very people who build the goat.
Every year the town of Gävle builds a huge goat out of straw, and every year it 
burns down. Fire-retardant material and close circuit cameras have all failed to 
help the goat survive.
Speaking to Filter magazine the American artist says that the different sports 
clubs that are responsible for building the goat each year are also involved in 
burning down the goat - and that this would even include the fire fighter's 
team.

Arctic winds could mean another snowy winter (Sweden)

Sweden could be facing a repeat of last winter's deep freeze, with lots of snow 
covering the ground for months.
"It looks exactly like last winter now" says weather forecaster Per Kållberg to 
the Sydsvenskan newspaper. Kållberg works at the Swedish meteorological office, 
SMHI.
The reason, say scientists, is that cold air is still being brought in from the 
arctic by the so-called North Atlantic Oscillation. This weather phenomenon is 
in a 'negative' phase, just like it has been since December 2009.
Before that Sweden had 40 years of relatively mild winter, due to the 
oscillation being in a 'positive' phase.
Per Kållberg at SMHI says that this phenomenon has been known about for a long 
time, but scientists have no reason why it exists.

Fears over cold winter push up power price

Electricity prices are rising sharply, due to a combination of the cold weather 
and low water levels in hydropower dams. Both Norway and Sweden are affected, 
reports news agency TT.
On the Norwegian electricity trading exchange Nordpol prices are already up by 
40 per cent since last Friday. Prices on this exchange directly effect the bills 
for customers who have a floating-price deal with a power company.
When asked whether we are headed towards last winter's situation - with 
extremely high electricity prices - Sigge Eriksson at power company Vattenfall 
says "I don't really know what to think. I'm a little scared myself." he adds 
that it is hard to tell right now whether this is just an overreaction by the 
market.

Since the system was created by the Dept. of Homeland Security in 2002, the 
color-coded terror alert scale has been more confusing than effective.
How can DHS even begin to say they know how much danger people are in at all 
times? The very concept of the system is flawed. In fact it looks as if the 
scale was created to intimidate and terrorize American citizens in order to keep 
them living in a constant state of fear.
First one must ask; how would DHS even know if a terror attack may or may not be

Obama Administration Weighs Indefinite Detention

Even if the Obama administration wanted to try low-level detainees in U.S. 
courts, it faces so much opposition from Congress it would be hard to do. And 
now, with the new Republican majority in the House, what was once very hard 
could become impossible.
Another option is to imprison terrorism suspects without ever going to trial — 
to just hold them.
And that's what lawmakers are looking at now. In August, Republican Sen. Lindsey 
Graham of South Carolina quietly introduced a bill that would codify indefinite 
detention. He wanted to answer questions such as what kind of enemy combatant 
could be locked up without trial? How much evidence would government need to do 
that?
Should Lindsey Graham's legislation on this pass, it will signal the end of this 
republic.
Once in place, this legislation will not only be used against alleged "bad 
guys": it will also be used against any individual who has a logical, reasoned 
objection to any foreign or domestic Federal governmental policy!

The big freeze begins with most widespread November snowfall in 17 years... and

Britain awoke to the most widespread November snowfall seen for 17 years this 
morning.
Parts of Scotland, the north of England and areas down the east coast were worst 
hit, with up to four inches of snow falling.
Major roads ground to a halt as motorists struggled with the icy conditions. By 
9am the AA had received 3,000 calls from stranded drivers.
Forecasters say today's snow is the tip of the iceberg and have warned that a 
10-day freeze is on the way.

Storms, not airport security, slow holiday travel

Some protesters showed up, including one man seen walking around the Salt Lake 
City airport in a skimpy, Speedo-style bathing suit. At other airports, they 
carried signs denouncing the Transportation Security Administration's screening 
methods as unnecessarily intrusive and embarrassing.
By most accounts, though, the lines moved smoothly, and there was no more or 
less congestion at major U.S. airports than in previous years on the day before 
Thanksgiving.
"I would go so far as to say that National Opt-Out Day was a big bust," said 
Genevieve Shaw Brown, a spokeswoman for the travel company Travelocity, which 
had staff at 12 of the nation's largest airports watching for problems.
