lindur në Qipro më 1922, Kakojanis, u bë i famshëm pas filmit që fitoi tre  
Oskar, “Zorba the Greek” një përshtatje e novelës së Nikos Kazanzakisit, në të  
cilin rolet kryesore i kanë luajtur Entoni Kuin dhe Irena Papas. 
Gjithashtu,  regjizori njihet edhe per filmin “Elektra”, I cili ka per histori 
tragjedine e  Euripidit, ky film ka marre dy cmime me 1962,ne festivalin e Kanes.
