Important Follow-up Message

Before I got the chance to sign on the NPR petition after Peter circulated
it, I learned it was a hoax.  Damn!!

Now, I hope that someone with prepare and send out as widely as possible a
slightly edited update of it which will _not_ be a hoax.

Two different news stories in the NYT over the weekend inform us of the
Bushie goings-on, even as these people continue to make noises that seem to
support education and to protect the environment.  One of the stories was
on the termination of the valuable program that provided
scholarships/fellowships to students working in environmental
studies.  (The method of (covert) termination was leaving it out of the
budget).  The other was continuing support of the Pell grants for college
study but allowing them to be given as support to athletes, enabling the
rich alumni to discontinue giving.

Coaches will no longer need to turn to those alumni when they are hiring
their teams.  (Please give me credit for not making jokes about athletic
supporters.  Even 'Lady Vols' need to be "recruited.")

On NPR, etc., not to mention the National Institute for the Arts,
etc.--just wait a bit--the Bushies will oblige with yet another camouflaged
or concealed elimination of all support of anything but the wealthiest
corporations.
