What I find the most interesting about the phrasing of a cyclist forcing a car into oncoming traffic is the fact that in every place I know of, the overtaking vehicle is responsible for ensuring that it is safe to pass before doing so. The media has already been programmed, and then is trying to program You, into subconsciously believing that it's never the driver's fault, it's the SUV! Again it all goes to the implication of a person being isolated and annnomyous when inside the 3000 pound steel cage. The bicyclist has no such protections, because the bike doesn't shield the rider from the enviroment, but rather makes the rider PART of the enviornment. Their exhaust gasses are invisible and unnoticed, except to the cyclist riding in traffic and sucking in lungfuls of it. I wonder how many would still drive if, for example, if society shoved back into their homes, all the pollution they created on each trip. A deligntful scenario I entertain while riding in traffic, but that's just me. On the one hand we dream of all getting along out there on the roads. But I don't deny dream of and waiting for the super mega gas crunch they all keep saying is coming, so we cyclists can stop worrying about tragically forcing those helpless SUV's into crashes.
