RE: small camera

I bought a Powershot SD-200 back in 2004 (I think) so of course it is way
out of date.  But it has been really good for a grab and go camera.  It does
stills and videos as well.  Looks like similar EBay prices for used ones.
The SD-200 is smaller than a pack of cigarettes.  It is a little thicker
than my cell phone, about the same width, 2/3 - 3/4 the length.  It has
macro and semi-manual (can control ISO and EV).  As Jim mentions, a simple
USB hookup with no installed software works fine.

The cons.  It takes proprietary batteries rather than AAs so you need a
charger.  It uses an SD like Jim's but it is too old for a high capacity SD
card. But a couple 2G cards has been all I need.  

If you end up with an SD card, I'd recommend buying the fastest you can AND
getting a USB card (like

e=UTF8&qid=1297440084&sr=8-1).  This way you don't even need a cable.  Just
pop out the card, flip open the usb cover and plug it in.  Doubles as a
small USB drive if you need it on the road.

    If I was going to a camera using AA batteries, I'd go with a set of the 
new NiZn batteries which last twice as long as Alkaline and four times as 
long as other rechargeable. They started out rather expensive but the price 
has come down to where you can buy a charger with four batteries for around 
$15. You would still have a camera that you can find batteries for just 
about anywhere if you got caught with dead ones.
