A brief search for 'gimprider; on search.bikelist.org found this and
lots of other stuff about doug from folks who loathe him and folks who
liked him, and even some that had mixed feelings ;-}!

>From Gimpriders own story:
"A brief history of my life experience's with discrimination.
At age 14 I was sentanced to 7 years CYA because I sassed
the judge, It was my 1st offense
I failed a psych exam and was sent to Napa State Hospital
where I discovered nurse Ratchet of Chokoos Nest was not a
fictonal caracture.
At age 17 I suffered a major case of maglignant melanoma
and Dr's carved large protions of my body away without my
permission, at 17 I'm only a child.
I have had psychiatrists force medicate me with drugs that
were experimental, which turned me into a drooling zombie.
The USMC would not accept my enlistment because I was a
cancer survivor, I did not tell them I'd escaped from 2
different mental hospitals.
I lied to get into the Marines and served 6 years with many
commendations. When the Marine Corps sent my fellows to Beruit
and painted targets on their butts and refused to let them
have any weapons in a compbat zone, also refusing to allow
them to set up defensive perimiters, then General Kelly and
Col.Geahrety stood before congress and said we did not forsee
any harm coming to these men. I screamed my protest that the
USMC murdered our troops in Beruit. I was ordered to shut up
and I told my CO to stuff his USMC where the sun did not shine.
I demanded a courtmartial but it was refused. I was given a
other than honorable discharge against military law. They did
not want my statements on record. I have 2 honerable discharges
on my wall and I hang that bad discharge next to them with pride.
I have been denied employment, housing, medical help, and beaten
by police on 2 occasions because I choose to stand up against
mans shameful treatment of the poor and helpless.
Now I'm physically disabled and that gives me special minority
rights I never had as a psycopath. The ADA has laws with some
real teeth. It gives me great joy to dare a cop to arrest me
even tearing up a ticket in front of one on Hwy 93 near Wikiup
Az. and watch them back down. If I see a law that is unjust and
perverse I will resist it with all my power. I will never resort
to violent methods but will use songs, parodies, and powerful
words to expose cruel men attempting to crush the weak."

I think Doug was - and is - an interesting, talented, character. Some
of his writing and his photography was beautiful. I also admired him
for the kind of touring he did. The way he used the list was less
beautiful, but I personally miss having him on the list. He needed an
outlet for what he had to say and we provided it. I think we - the
list - and Doug both benefitted.
