waterproofing camera (was: RE: small camera)

When I toured before, I had a waterproof point-n-shoot.  I've wondered with a lumix or canon, would I simply not be able to take the camera out if it was misting or worse, or do I need to double plastic baggie it to make sure it stays dry in the hip pack or handlebar bag.

How are people caring for their cameras while on tour?  I'm just about to buy a new camera, so I've been wondering this.

I quite like my Cannon 620, but I rarely use it because it is too
bulky and too slow. Once I started using small LUMIX cameras - my
first was a FX01 - I was hooked on having small, sturdy, quick,
cameras that I could carry in my shirt pocket - on tour or off -
without being reminded I was carrying them by their weight and bulk..

Last summer I carried two small cameras FX07 and TZ4. The TZ4 weighs
about 50% more, and is a better, and more versatile camera, but I
notice its weight in my pocket. Except for long telephoto shots, I
don't see any difference in image quality on my web pages. On last
summers tour, I used only the FX camera till I got to the Pacific an
then only the TZ while riding down the coast. Although the TZ let me
get a few long telephoto shots that would not have worked with th FX,
I'm not convinced that it was worth the xtra weight.

Having said that, I'm planning to carry the FX07 and my new G1 - much
bigger, much more capable - next summer. I'll use the FX fr casual
shots and the G1 - shooting RAW - when I want to attempt more
difficult shots. The FX will be in my shirt pocket and the G1 will be
in my handlebar bag, I'll be using a larger handlebar bag this year to
make room for it.
