I have used a Rubbermaid or Ziploc plastic container in the bottom of my Delta rear rack bag. You can get one close to the same size as the bottom of your bag and put all damageable things in it if rain is threatening and pop the lid on it. When not needed just take the lid off and slide it vertically beside the container out of the way and the container takes up very little room. More durable than plastic bags and airtight. When lid is on and full of electronics you can still pile things on top of it if necessary. Keeps everything valuable in one spot. You can get them in sizes to fit any camera or electronic item out there and the rigidity protects from crushing.
