When I was getting my water by the gallon when in Alabama at a spring on the Chief Ladiga Rails to Trails I used my First Need filter. I have an adapter that screws on the bottom and you can attach a Platapus "bottle" to it and set in on the ground and pump away. It holds 72+ ounces. I would then pour it into my gallon jug and repeat til I got all the water I needed. The filter has a tube with filter that floats in the water while you are pumping. That pretty much keeps all the visible trash out of the pump. Its about 2+ feet long. When finished I just let the Platapus dry out and then roll it up and put it back in the bag with the filter.

The spring is at the old Southern Rail Road and that where the trail is. No more rails to ride on just asphalt.

I bought one of these. The original SteriPen. The reviews are excellent
hroughout the web and after talking with their customer service department,
was even more impressed. It works best with lithium batteries and AA is
eadily available. Compact, light weight and easy to use.
