Oh yeah, I have one of those also, great little device. I also have a Miox device. This is a clever device, requiring rock salt(not a lot) and of course batteries. Both of these work really well. Both require a pre-filter for solid matter. Both are pricey. Overall, the First need is best for long term use in my opinion. The reviews are excellent throughout the web and after talking with their customer service department, I was even more impressed. It works best with lithium batteries and AA is readily available. Compact, light weight and easy to use. http://www.amazon.com/SteriPEN-Classic-Handheld-Water-Purifier/dp/B000PGYDT8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297806156&sr=8-1 Bryan Barrington, RI On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 2:22 PM, Troll <[email protected]> wrote: That's comforting, thanks coy -------------------------------------------------- From: "Andy Goodell" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 15, 2011 1:13 PM To: "touring" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: Touring water system filters On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 2:05 PM, Troll <[email protected]> wrote: Using these "straws" is not unlike sucking on the barrel of a loaded Glock. Just ain't worth it. Exactly like that. Except for the fact that nearly all backpackers rely on basic carbon filters that are the exact same process, just in a larger size that will last for longer and pump quickly. The straw "only" lasts for 20 gallons which would be several weeks in the backcountry. If carbon filters were risky, you wouldn't see several different brands selling them. I've never had any issue drinking from carbon filters - though personal experience really means little, since I know some that never filter water and have done fine as well. _______________________________________________ Touring mailing list [email protected] Browse and search the archives: http://search.bikelist.org Unsubscribe or list settings: http://www.phred.org/mailman/options/touring Rainbows are easily found while riding a bike _______________________________________________ Touring mailing list [email protected] Browse and search the archives: http://search.bikelist.org Unsubscribe or list settings: http://www.phred.org/mailman/options/touring Rainbows are easily found while riding a bike
