Hi,

Sounds to me like you need to get back to basics with the carbs. If 3 & 4 
are glowing then this could mean that the balance between the two carbs is 
set wrong (The connection between the carbs has been set bady such that 
barrels 1&2 (Fwd carb) are open and 3&4 (rear carb) closed.

I'd add to DVA's words here by saying that a proper meter is a very useful 
aid. However, I've been setting twin 40's and 45's now with a piece of 
garden hose held in front of the trumpets and held to my ear. If you 
listen carefully to the pitch of the hiss of air you can get them *very* 
close.

Follow the instructions, setting the idle airs and setting the balance and 
I suspect the problem will go away

Its really not a hard job and there is much mystique and talk of black 
art, when I think its a very logical and "mechanical" process to get 
pretty much right. Only a rolling road is going to get you and closer to 
"optimum"
