I do roughly the same -5 is not that cold .....

Check the Throttle cable runs ok, and give it a very good dose or WD40, plus
check the throttle peddle, and give it a dose of WD40 where it needs it.

I find my cables need a fettle every so often - you might even want to
replace it (easy) with a new one, and keep the old as an emergency spare.
Same goes for clutch cable.

Carbs may need a fettle as they do go out of tune over time, and it only
takes a few minutes by someone experienced....

I would be supprised if it were the head gasket, but this should be easy to
check.  If it is replace it with a decent one, as there is a large varience
in price and quality.
