I think you'd find that the van isn't any worse a daily driver than a truck after you spent some time in it.

As a homeowner I love my full-size pickup but when I replace it in 3 years I'm considering a Dodge Sprinter van.  These are like the tall white vans like FedEX has more and more of.  Made by Mercedes.  Diesel engine.  You can get passenger or cargo models.  Not a huge towing machine but will be able to haul a bike or two in the back and pull our small Scamp camper, which would be perfect.  Daily driver?  For me it would be ok but the few folks I've mentioned this to think I'm crazy.

I actually have two open utility trailers and they work great for bikes, but you always worry someone's going to take something.

My first idea was to buy a work van with no back seats and mount my
front-tire holder to the floor. Then I started thinking about a truck with a
hitch because it's a better general purpose vehicle and because I can rent
5x8 (covered) trailers from U-Haul for $20 per day.

Not sure what I will do yet. Anyone here using a van, and what do you think
of the van option? If I knew the right van to look for it would help.
