They're not like bicycle chains that can be reused a couple times
safely (although both Shimano and Suntour and everyone else says you
shouldn't)

When you punch out the pins, it loosens the pin in the sideplate,
which is bad.  Loose pins leads to pin/chain failure, which is very
bad.

The new master link has the pins firmly attached to one plate, and the
other side gets peened over by the tool.  They're a one-time thing.

I'd feel a little weird about re-using a clip-type master link for the
same reason.  Each time you take the side plate off the metal deforms
a bit.

A master link is like $7 at most I think, why bother trying to re-use
a questionable link?
