Gel Grips for SV

There has been a lot of discussion about heated grips in the past.  I was wondering about plain old gel grips to reduce vibration and fatigue through the hands.  I purchased a pair and they felt great, but they did not fit over the ridge in the throttle.  I come to find that the SV's (or all Suzuki's?) have an extra 'lip' of plastic on the throttle.  The vendor told me that most folks grind down that extra plastic.  This sounds like a klugy way around having gel grips that are made for the SV throttle.  I much prefer hearing from my SV brothers and sisters on the listserv....any guidance for this rookie on improving the grips for my 05 SV?
